Wonderful Christmastime

lol this post is wayyyyy later than I was planning it but OH WELL.

Mini-Xmas Eve

hmmm I should have fixed my hair & put on makeup before pictures but OH WELL
Our Christmas this year was very extended. The years that Sym spends actual Christmas with her dad we do a pre-Christmas Christmas. Usually it’s just one evening of present-opening and Christmas-movie-watching but this year we did a whole thing, an Eve and a Day, a full Mini Christmas.

On Mini Christmas Even we opened our Christmas pajamas, had pizza and watched Elf.

Of course, Santa doesn’t come on Mini Christmas Eve, but luckily the Christmas Elf was available to fill our shoes with candy, or in the case of family members who are to small for candy, leave some new shoes.

I was up very early with Gwen that morning, and found Sym already awake. She fell back asleep though, under the Christmas tree, which was just about the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen.

When she finally woke up it was time for presents!

I made breakfast…

And then Sym played with the new Wii U pretty much all day. Taylor had thought to unbox & pre-update it a couple days before so there was no (well, very little) waiting.

This was the second year I made an actual Christmas dinner, and it was just as good this year. Since I started eating meat again while I was pregnant with Gwen I decided to do make roast beef with yorkshire pudding, neither of which I’d made before (well, I’d tried to make roast beef before but it didn’t turn out). I started cooking a little late in the afternoon so dinner wasn’t until almost 7 but everything turned out delicious!

Between Mini Christmas and actual Christmas we went to a party at our friend Jenn’s house. I was particularly happy with how my hair turned out.

Last Night

Gwen came with us and had her first public transportation ride on the Skytrain, which she loved!

She also did well at the party, eventually she got fussy and we came home, but I think we were there later than we’d planned on staying. It was also our first extending visit somewhere with her and all her baby accoutrements and I think we did pretty well also.

With Sym away, actual Christmas was a much quieter time, although still special. On Christmas Eve we watched Die Hard (BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER) and made holiday nachos, and set up a fantastic treat buffet of candy, cookies and pies.

On Christmas Day we opened our stockings and some small extra gifts. I think my best gift this year though was when Taylor said he missed having Sym here for Christmas, since it’s a lot more fun when she’s home. We’d planned on having perogies for dinner, but we ended up just snacking all day and night and then finished up the day by dragging ourselves through the first two Lord of the Rings movies (we watched the third on Boxing Day). I hadn’t seen them in years and WOW I do not like them! LESSON LEARNED, I guess.

All in all it was a nice holiday, and I’m very ready for our traditional New Year’s Eve feast/Dance Central-a-thon/viewing of Anchorman tonight!

Six Weeks & Shopping With Sym

Yesterday Gwen had her six-week checkup. She now weighs 12lbs2.4oz, so almost a full four pounds more than at birth, and she’s 22.5″ long, two inches longer than at birth. Basically, she’s SO BIG! She’s really starting to become fun to interact with as well- when we cuddle and play with her we’re rewarded with huge smiles instead of just sticky baby hands flailing at us and tangling in our hair (although that does still happen)!

Also yesterday was Sym’s school winter concert, and guess what? I FORGOT TO GO. Yep, mother of the year right here. In my defence I spent the time I should have been at the concert wrapping presents, but I felt really bad, so after Sym got home from school I took her on an impromptu shopping trip to the Kid’s Market on Granville Island.

The fastest way to get there from our apartment downtown is by boat, but damned if I don’t have a panic attack every time I step on/off one of those little ferries! I always think I’m going to fall into the water, or at the very least drop my purse overboard! The dock was slippery and I was wearing Gwen in the moby so it was extra nerve-wracking for me, but clearly I didn’t drown. Yet.

The trip was a success, I picked up some great little toys & things for Christmas gifts. Buying presents for people is LITERALLY one of my favourite activities, but I haven’t been able to get much this year due to being so epically broke. Thankfully my maternity leave payments finally started so PHEW! Christmas is saved! I also bought Sym a little doll to make up for missing her concert, and these cute puffy stickers of Japanese spirits/ghosts/demons for myself because why not.

Since Sym will be spending Christmas with her dad and his family this year, we’re doing our traditional mini-Christmas this weekend, although this year we’re doing it up right. Usually we cram the whole celebration into one evening, but this year we’re doing the whole thing, just tonight and tomorrow instead of next Monday & Tuesday.

So happy Mini Christmas Eve from me, my family and this huge glitter elk I crammed into my tree! I’ll be back with a full recap after the weekend. Hopefully, if I don’t get to busy/lazy.

Pouts

Twinsies

It’s not easy being such a cute baby, especially with a mommy who imitates your pouts all the time.

Baby Faces

THIS BABY YOU GUYS. She is so cute and funny I can’t stand it. And so squirmy, I had to take over 30 pictures to get enough to make this baby collage last night.

Time

I’m finding it hard to find enough time to do things. Time to do the things I need to do, time to do the things I want to do, time to do the things I have to do or I’m literally going to drop dead. Last night I stayed up late while the baby slept so I could finish watching season three of The Vampire Diaries with Taylor, and was consequently super tired today. I decided to nap when Gwen napped this afternoon, but I’d no sooner fallen asleep than I suddenly woke up again and realized I needed to mix up some baby formula and track some packages (all the gifts I ordered should be delivered tomorrow, FINGERS CROSSED), and now there’s no point in going back to bed because Sym will be home in about half an hour. Maybe I’ll sleep tonight instead. Maybe I’ll sleep tomorrow.

I’m Still Here

A quick little update post!

Since my last post, Gwen turned four weeks old…

… then one month…

… then five weeks. I literally CAN NOT believe how quickly the time has gone already!

Sym got her first report card of the school year and it’s a good one. I’m really proud of her, especially for that B in math, a subject she really struggled with last year.

We finally put up our Christmas tree, way later than normal.

I made an intense amount of banners. This picture is from last Thursday, when I shipped ten orders and since then I’ve sent out an additional twenty-one. I KNOW. IT’S SERIOUS.

Taylor & Gwen

When I was pregnant one things I was really excited about was seeing how Taylor would be with the baby. I had no doubt he would be loving and gentle and kind with her (I’d seen how he is with his dog, haha) but I also wanted to see how cute they looked together, my 6’4″ husband and a teeny-tiny baby. Well, I guess I always get what I want because they are SO. CUTE.

Typically I hate pictures of dudes with little kids where everyone who looks at it freaks out about how AMAZING of a human being he must be when he’s not doing anything women don’t every day to zero accolades, but I guess it’s different when i’s MY husband and MY baby, because I KNOW what an amazing human being he is.
