Sunny Day

Some pictures I took of Sym and the dogs basking in a sunbeam the other weekend, these are especially nice to look at today because it’s all black clouds and pouring rain outside.

The Best Review

I’ve been pretty exhausted and crappy feeling this week so I don’t have a list of awesome or terrible things to share, so I’m just going to post about one thing: the best person in the world, my husband Taylor.

Anniversary Flowers

It was our 3rd wedding anniversary on Wednesday, although we didn’t do anything fancy to celebrate. I had given him his (top-secret) gift early (I’m bad at keeping secrets) and he brought me home flowers. He apologized that they weren’t my favourite kind, but you know what? They are. My favourite kind of flowers are the flowers he gave me (also tulips and hydrangeas, but that’s beside the point).

Wedding of the Century

I could write up a huge post about all the kind things he does and how sweet and handsome and funny and handsome and tall and smart and handsome he is, but if you want to read that stuff you can just check out the Tanie + Taylor page. As for me, I’m just happy he’s mine :)

Manicure Monday

Just so you know, this week’s Monday falls on Tuesday.

Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money

Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money*
I’d apologize for having dry skin on my thumb but I have a job where I have to wash my hands 350 million times a day and also I don’t care. Neither does Georgie.

She’s so kissy! Anyway I think this colour (pale gold & purple glitter) is the most popular colour in the Gem Crush line, based on reviews I’ve read online and the fact that it sold out in many of the stores I frequent. I was going to put it over a plain metallic gold (you know how I feel about glitter polishes over naked nails) but I forgot and besides, with three coats it actually gets really good coverage!

*I painted these nails a few days after being introduced to the wonder and the mystery that is Insane Clown Posse’s juggalo western, Big Money Rustlas, and now that’s all I can think about.

Sick Day

Closed Due To Illnes!

I don’t often take unscheduled days off work. I can’t even remember the last time I did, maybe when Sym was in the second or third grade? It’s definitely been a couple of years.

I always feel bad about inconveniencing all my clients, so I have to be REALLY sick to call off. Last night at 2am when I was sweating and crying on the bathroom floor and trying not to throw up all over myself I decided this was one of those times. I had all my clients’ numbers in my phone, so I texted them all not to come in and went back to bed. I didn’t hear back from a couple of them before opening time so I asked Sym to make the above sign for the door and spent the day with my book and my sick day bff, this little fuzzy dog who never left my side.

Sick Day

Sym made little crafts to cheer me up and Taylor brought me ginger ale and I’m already feeling much better.

Good Reviews/Bad Reviews

The Good

This Print from Bikeparts on Etsy

I saw this on etsy’s front page last night and bought it IMMEDIATELY because it is the greatest thing I have ever seen. A BEAR EATING LITTLE FRENCH BABIES????? Amazing, I can’t wait to get this!

Buying Korean Skincare Products on Ebay

Ciracle & BBCream

Why are Korean skincare products so fun and amazing? (I’m sure products from other countries in Asia are great as well, I’ve only bought Korean ones though.) So far I’ve tried Ciracle Good-Bye Blackhead, which I LOVE. It’s these little sheets filled with plant extracts and magic that suck all the gunk out of your pores (be careful if you look it up, there are lots before and after pics of pore gunk). Last night I got some Skin79 BBCream in the mail. I don’t know if I love it yet, because it’s on my face for the very first time right now, but 99% of the people I know who’ve used it love it, so here’s hoping!

The sellers I’ve ordered from are jbcommerce2002 and cosmetic.love. Both are top-rated sellers with great feedback and offer free or very cheap shipping. The products arrived WAY faster than expected- they were both supposed to take about three weeks to get here and arrived in about a week.

The Bad

The Addition of the Character Luke Granby to Up All Night

GTFO Luke Granby

I love this show. Everyone I know loves this show and if they are in a relationship they love to say “omg, we are SO Chris and Reagan,” (unless they are like Gene and Terry, in which case gtfo). However, one of the things I loved most about it was the fact that Reagan’s work environment was a LADY environment: Reagan, Ava and Missy are all great female characters that work together without competing against one another, and Reagan was the boss. But last week they suddenly and unexpectedly and in my opinion detrimentally introduced this new male character? Who is their boss now? WHAT IN THE HELL????? Why can’t a WOMAN just be in charge? Why do they need this male overlord? Ugh I just feel like the network decided Will Arnett’s SAHD (stay-at-home dad) character wasn’t manly enough or something and decided to cram this completely unnecessary and unwanted strong male leader type into the cast, ruining the dynamic. RUINING IT.

Men’s Reactions to International Women’s Day
As I’m sure you all know, yesterday was International Women’s Day. You would think that on this day, men could take five seconds to appreciate the women in their lives: moms, wives, girlfriends, daughters, friends, coworkers, bosses, employees, politicians even! But instead all I saw all over the internet were disgusting displays of whining (about how why don’t men get a day of celebration, like COME ON) and unfunny “jokes” about how women should get back in the kitchen, do the dishes, make them a sandwich or just stop wearing clothes. Like, really? Are men so insecure about their VERY SECURE place in the world and society that when faced with a single day of appreciate women all they can think to do is act like babies and dredge up insulting sexist stereotypes? News flash: your misogyny is showing, and it’s not cute. Also, this:

But fear not, men! I’ve decided there should be a day to celebrate you, so here it is: from now on March 9th will officially be known as International Men Are Disgusting Day. Congratulations! All you hard work has finally paid off!

Underneath

The scene under my desk right now is the ultimate in fuzziness.

Dougal is also great; I took this picture of him on Tuesday and I keep looking at it and cackling. Why you got such funny arms Dougal-dog?

Bits & Pieces

Some pictures from this quiet, rainy afternoon:

Monogram

I saw this adorable customizable monogram from The Wedding Chicks on Sometimes Sweet this morning and IMMEDIATELY knew I needed one. I want to put it up in my bedroom (is that cheesy? yes, but I don’t care) but the colours were wrong so I tweaked it a little, and then printed it out on some nice paper I tore out of a sketchbook and trimmed to size.

Penny Hartz

Yesterday I FINALLY set up my new computer. It’s a little different that my old one and it’s taking some getting used to, but so far I love it. The real question is how long can I keep my desk clean? (The answer: probably not long)

Do Work

This purple-on-purple banner is getting ready for a wedding in Los Angeles next month. My motto these days is basically “Always Be Ombre-ing!”

Shop Stickers

Teeny-tiny stickers covered in teeny-tiny bunting.

Dog Friends

Dougal and Georgie are still bffs. I love when they snuggle.

Sym in her Room

Sym had the day off school and spent most of it holed up in her room colouring. She was supposed to have her friend Ali over to play but she had an audition (you might have seen Ali in last Friday’s Fringe episode. Hint: she was the only kid).

Sym's Nails

Sym wanted me to post a picture of her Valentine’s Day manicure to show the colours she chose- normally I’d save this for Monday but I’m too happy about the fact that she stopped biting her nails! We actually had to trim and file them last weekend because they were too long! I’m really proud of her for breaking the habit.

Paper Frog

She got this inflatable paper frog in a Kinder Egg, it’s so odd!

The Nap Room

These paper palm trees were leftover from Sym’s Luau birthday in 2008, but I recently unearthed them and put them up in the nap room.

New Life

Last summer the housepainters stomped all my plants to death, but the remains of my hydrangea somehow survived and it’s putting out little leaves! There’s hope for my garden yet.

Hallelujah

It’s here it’s here our new bed is here!!!

New Dog Bed

It was delivered yesterday afternoon but we weren’t able to set it up until almost 8 o’clock and let me tell you, the wait was A G O N Y. But do you know what ISN’T agony? My back. Yes, one night of sleeping on the new bed and my back already feels 75% better. AMAZING.

The new mattress is about fifty times thicker than the old one so one thing we need to do is buy some new sheets, since we only have one that really fits. Luckily, it’s my favorite one from my favorite bedding store, Bed. I’m bored with my current bedroom colour scheme so I already ordered a new duvet cover so I’ve been looking for colours that will go with it. Right now I’m looking at rhino, taupe and aqua.

New Bedroom Colour Scheme

The dogs have also been enjoying the new bed, but I think Georgie’s favorite was when we pulled the old mattress out and leaned it on the couch. She climbed up and slid down over and over, it was adorable.

Intrepid Georgie

So intrepid!

Birthday All Weekend

It was my birthday on Sunday, and we celebrated (sort of) all weekend. Unfortunately even though I’ve made a habit of bringing my camera with me everywhere, I haven’t exactly made a habit of USING it, so there aren’t many pictures.

Friday Night
We were supposed to have dinner and watch a movie, but I felt really sick for some reason so I skipped dinner. We watched the original Hairspray and I got to teach Sym about racism, segregation, and the Civil Rights movement!

Saturday
Sym wanted to make me breakfast in bed, but eating in bed with three dogs is problematical, so I settled for breakfast in the kitchen. Taylor made birthday pancakes, including a unicorn one for me.

Birthday Pancakes

After breakfast Sym and I went out shopping for craft and baking supplies.

Sym Out Shopping

Instead of a cake, Sym and I made Chocolate Chip Cookie/Oreo/Brownie bars.

My piece was topped with a Cake Candelabra!

I enjoyed blowing out the candles.

Sunday
Jenn picked Taylor and I up for brunch at Locus, and then she and I went to the Absolute Spa for $75 pedicures (I had a $150 gift card I got as a goodbye gift from a former client). I got OPI’s Animal-istic from the Muppet Collection, it’s so pretty!.

They also gave us champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, too bad we can’t go all the time!

Presents
From Symphony, a giant hand-made card & two bottles of Essie polish: Shine of the Times and Master Plan.

From Taylor, Dominion Intrigue. I got him the original game for Christmas and promised to play it with him when I thought it was a board game, but as it turns out it’s a card game. At first I was worried it would be too complicated or boring or nerdy, but it’s actually really fun!

Dominion Intrigue

We played using some of the cards from this game on Saturday and I DECIMATED him.

From Jenn, a sweet little Rebecca Minkoff pouch.

Beach House Fund

She gave it to me at brunch and I STUPIDLY left it at the restaurant, so when we were on our way to the spa we kicked Taylor out of the car to go back and get it and he had to take the train home. I’M SO MEAN.

I also got some giftcards and money, which are always appreciated, as well as an absurd about of “Happy Birthday!” posts on my facebook, so thank you everyone! Turning thirty-five was actually pretty good!

Pet Party

Yesterday I noticed Geogie was scratching herself a lot, and she’d actually started pulling out clumps of hair and the skin on her shoulders was all red and bothered. Poor thing! So of course I FREAKED OUT and woke Taylor up to take her to the vet. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing serious, which is great because WOW I can’t afford any more crazy vet bills after Claire!
