I can’t believe I filmed her for an entire minute without going “Georgie? Georrrrrgieeeeee!” in a talking to baby animals voice.

Symmie in her Natural Habitat
In her bed with a pile of toys, a book and the tv on (not pictured): where I can always find her.
On Tuesday I finally hung the paper lantern I’ve been working on for Sym’s bedroom. I finished all the cutting and gluing weeks ago but I had to order a light cord for it, and find a way to use the light cord with the too-small lantern (the wire harp inside the lantern made the bulb hang so low it stuck out of the bottom, so in the end I took it out and cobbled something together with a Pringles can lid and some cable ties to hold the cord) and sort out the whole hanging-something-from-the-ceiling situation. I actually did really poorly on that last one, the hook is loose and looks sloppy but I ran out of (nap)time to work on it. I’m going to wait until the cord unkinks a little more before I rehang it. The lantern itself turned out really pretty though.
Also please note Sym’s interior decorating. I think I set a bad example with my walls du art in the dining room. Anyway, now that this project is well enough squared away, I’m going to focus on finishing my self-portrait because OH MY LORD I AM SO CLOSE TO BEING DONE, and then I’m going to work on turned the Ikea Mammut armoire (see dining room picture link) into a computer workstation for Taylor. WISH ME LUCK.
Long Weekend of the Gods
This (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend I am thankful for AN AWESOME WEEKEND.
Friday night Taylor and I watched Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in part one of our Six Weeks of Potter Films before the first part of The Deathly Hallows comes out.
On Saturday I was amazed to have a whole actual day of no appointments. No dentists, vets or hairdressers. Also no Symphony because she was away with her dad for the whole weekend, so I could basically just do whatever I wanted! Taylor and I went down to Barking Babies in Yaletown so I could buy some poop bags for Georgie (I accidentally got the wrong ones though) and I found the best thing there! Just a couple of days earlier I was complaining to Taylor how impossible it is to find plain dog clothes- everything either says “princess” or “bitch” all over it or is covered in rhinestone skulls. Or all three. This is not a look I want for my dog! Anyway, look what I found:
A plain dog hoodie? And it’s grey?? Pinch me. They also had a brown one, which I got for Halloween costume reasons.
In the afternoon I had a nap and then I had to pick up wine and get ready for my friend Jade’s bachelorette party. I had no idea what kind of party to expect but the answer was like, super cool girl party. It was in this weird place out in East Van that I think maybe used to be a dentist’s office.
There was a theatre room with black and white movies playing, a dress up room with all kinds of sparkly clothes and wigs and stuff, tons of food and silly penis games. We played “Pin the Macho on the Man” (I came in second) and there was also a team zucchini penis carving contest (again, I came in second with my penis-carving partner, Amanda). We danced to Guns’n’Roses and The Ronettes and I drank my own weight in pink champagne.

The bride-to-be and I. This was during dress up time, those hot pink fishnets were my second place penis-carving prize.
After calling for cabs for 45 minutes I finally managed to flag one down and came home to a slightly drunk Taylor and a puppy who was so excited to see me she ran out of the house. I always panic and freeze up when she does that because I’m scared she’s going to just run away and I’ll never catch her, but somehow with my liquid courage I was able to scoop her right up. We all snuggled up on the couch and watched tv and ordered pizza and had a cozy, boozy time. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to the bedroom for fear of vomiting so I ended up sleeping on the couch. Taylor didn’t want to leave me alone so he slept on the living room floor. So sweet!
Sunday morning we woke up early to walk the dogs and give Claire her insulin, but after that it was straight back to bed for me! I ended up sleeping in until eleven (this never happens) and after some quick house tidying Taylor and I took the dogs down to the Emery Barnes dog park again. It was supposed to rain all day but it ended up being super sunny and hot (instead it’s raining today) and Georgie and Kichou (and Taylor and I) had so much fun! I think the only thing I don’t like about that dog park is the other dog owners can be pretty aloof and bitchy- up here at Nelson Park people are always chatty and want to talk to you about your dog and the neighborhood and whatever, but whenever I try to talk to someone in Yaletown the just give me one word answers and move away. Oh well. Georgie likes it.

A challenger approaches.

These next three tell a story:

This puppy was so cute and friendly but it’s owner made a nasty face every time Kichou barked. Like, he’s a DOG in a DOG PARK. Get over it!

This Frenchy was SO sweet but SO slobbery!

Georgie was the happiest puppy. If you want more happy puppies there are zillions more dog park & Seawall pictures on Taylor’s flickr.
After a while Taylor started to get crabby and wanted to go straight home, but I convinced him to let me get some snacks for us and to walk along the Seawall instead, and I’m glad I did. It was so beautiful out! We walked all the way from the east end of Davie Street around to English Bay, and then stopped at Mr Kumpir on Denman for baked potatoes (it’s a baked potato restaurant).

Taylor didn’t want me to take any pictures of him so this was the compromise. Also, I’m not wearing a lick of make up here so like, enjoy my pores.

Since today is a holiday, that meant Taylor didn’t have to go to work last night. Instead of him going to bed as soon as we got home, he got to stay up and hang out, which was awesome. We read and ate junk food and watched tv and it was just so nice and comfortable. Recently we’ve both been so exhausted and crabby and stressed from work that I feel like I haven’t had much quality husband time, so it was great to just be together, you know?
Today I got up early for Claire and then went straight back to bed again. When I got up we walked the dogs and went for brunch, then spent the whole afternoon just doing nothing. Taylor has to go to bed now so I’m going to finish up the laundry and read until Sym gets home and it’s back to real, regular life. I feel refreshed though. I really needed this weekend!
Puppy Friday!
Moon Cosmic Power, Make Up!
I want a tattoo of Sailor Moon’s Cosmic Heart Compact.
Hearts? check
Stars? check
Rainbow colours? check
Huge pink crystal? DOUBLECHECK
Now the question is, would it be overkill to get it on my chest? Or would it be overawesome?
Big thank you to Esme from The Moon Princess for the screencaps.

Autumn’s Best Breakfast
I haven’t made any posts recently about cooking, mainly because I haven’t been cooking. I’m in a massive food slump and the idea of planning meals and buying groceries and preparing dinner is like, TOO MUCH. Basically the only thing I’ve been making regularly is oatmeal, which is OF COURSE the perfect thing to eat on these cold autumn mornings.
I go through big oatmeal phases, as in: I eat it all the time for a couple of months and then don’t have any for five years, and I guess right now is one of those eat-it-all-the-time times. I bought steel-cut oats instead of rolled and I like them way better. Usually I just do the classic: with raisins and brown sugar, or, if I have any, honey. I have made a peaches-and-should-be-cream-but-he-likes-his-oatmeal-with-no-liquid for Taylor, and an apple cinnamon attempt (wasn’t cinnamony enough). Today I used some frozen blackberries I had left over from Taylor’s and my apple-blackberry pie and a nice glob of clover-alfalfa honey from the Vlad’s Apiary stand at the West End farmer’s market. Not only is it delicious but the berries turned the milk and oats purplish-pink so it’s like a visual treat as well.
Dog Park Party (Image Overload)
Ever since Georgie figured out she could squeeze through the bars at the dog park by our house and run away from me cackling wildly, I haven’t been able to take her. It sucked because I really want her to be well socialized with all kinds of dogs and she had so much fun playing! Then, on Saturday Taylor took her and Kichou for a walk to Emery Barnes Park in Yaletown (the same park where Sym and her friends played in the fountain), which also has a fenced dog area. At first I didn’t think we’d be able to go in because the fence has the same wide-spaced bars, but as it turned out there was a heavy-gauge wish mesh welded to the lower half of the bars so little dogs couldn’t escape. At first there was only a couple other dogs there, but more showed up and it turned into an awesome dog party!
… aaaaaaaand I swear my next post will be about something other than fuzzy pets.
The Results are In
I took Claire to the vet on Saturday. I was pretty concerned about her weight loss and as it turned out she’s lost nearly 50% of her body weight- at her last checkup she weighed over 11 pounds and now she weighs just 6lbs3oz. They called me today with the results of her blood tests, and she has diabetes, which I didn’t even know cats could get! I have to take her in on Wednesday evening and learn how to do her twice-daily insulin shots. Fun! She’s going to hate me.
