Sleepyhead

Pattern mixing

March 2nd, the last time she fell asleep in her swing.

This week I have been working on getting Gwen on a regular nap schedule. It’s been kind of hard for me, which is weird because when I’m working (doing daycare) I am very strict about naptimes and actually get all the kids to nap at the same time so I can have a break.

Spoons

One evening back in February when I was tired and forced her to nap on the couch with me, and when I got up Georgie stole my spot.

Gwen is very particular about her bed- & naptimes and gets very fussy if I miss them. A few weeks ago, when she was going to bed around 11pm, I decided to start slowly easing her into an earlier bedtime, just by 15 minutes each day, but she was like FORGET THIS and fell asleep at 8. However if she goes to bed that early she wakes up at like, 5am and NO THANKS TO THAT. Currently we’re starting her bedtime routine at around 8:15 and generally get her to bed by 9.

Morning napper.

How & where she likes to sleep, as you can she she spat out her binkie & replaced it with her thumb.

The problem with this whole napping thing is I’m still used to her easy newborn sleepiness where she would fall asleep anywhere- in her swing, on the floor, basically wherever I put her. Nowadays she’s much more concerned with comfort and only likes to nap in her crib (although she’ll still fall asleep in her stroller if we’re out, but with the carrycot it’s like a rolling crib). It’s actually great because when it’s time for bed I just put her in her crib with her binkie & her Elke, semi-swaddled in a blankie and she’ll fall asleep almost immediately.

Interloper

If I leave Gwen’s bedroom door open Claire will try to sleep in the crib as well, that sneaky cat.

I’m very lucky that she is such a good/easy sleeper, but if I lose track of time/forget that she won’t sleep in the living room anymore then LOOK OUT because if she is overtired she gets into the biggest rages! Ands of course once she’s worked up she has a much harder time getting settled. Her overtired fussiness has also been compounded this week by the fact that she’s still teething (I can see and feel the teeth but they aren’t quite through yet) AND she has her first cold, so sometimes I’m not quite sure if she wants to go to bed or she’s not feeling well or her gums hurt. Being a baby is hard, basically.

Disaster

I'm teething and I'm not happy about it.

This week has turned into a huge mess, it seems like everything that could go wrong, has. Prodigiously.

I thought I was caught up on etsy orders, but turns out I dated/scheduled something wrong and SURPRISE I’m behind again and will have to work all weekend. It sucks because I hate sending out orders late, plus I feel guilty about all the time I spent this week NOT making banners because I thought I was caught up, ie the day and a half I spent making Tiny Buttons.

Taylor got me a new phone, which should have been a nice surprise, but since I have the worst luck with phones of course it wasn’t. I had to get a new micro SIM card for it, but some reason it wouldn’t connect to the network properly. We tried it in Taylor’s phone and it worked, and we tried Taylor’s SIM in my phone and that worked, but for some reason my SIM in my phone wouldn’t work! We called customer support, went back to the store and Taylor even took it to a professional cellphone unlocker and no one can tell me what the problem is, so basically I quit phones forever because they are the worst.

To top it all of, Gwen is teething HARD and hating every minute. She’s getting her two bottom front teeth and it’s literally the worst thing that has ever happened to her in her entire life. She’s miserable and fussy and basically needs to be held every second that she’s awake. I don’t mind cuddling her all day but it doesn’t help me catch up on etsy orders since I can’t really cut out delicate shapes with an exacto knife with a squirmy baby in my lap (I CAN type up a blog post with a squirmy baby in my lap though).

So yeah. A big black mark on this week.

On a brighter note, the first outfit post is up on Tiny Buttons, so please take a second to go check out What Gwen Wore! And leave a comment, it will cheer me up after this crud of a week.

Tiny Buttons

I slacked on posting this week, but that’s because I’ve been working on a fun new project with some of my friends.

Tiny Buttons is a children’s lifestyle blog focusing on fashion for babies. We’ll be posting outfits (my “What Gwen Wore” posts will be there from now on), nursery tours, baby gear round ups and any other baby stuff we like!

Right now we have five regular contributors, but if you like to submit a guest post please email us at babies@tiny-buttons.com for information.

Jump Jump

Guppy toes

Gwen loves jumping around, so after looking at different exercisers and jumpers online we decided on a Jolly Jumper. Our apartment is mostly ~open plan~ and there aren’t any doorways with frames in the living area (only in the hallway) so we got a one that comes with a stand (which meant it came in a giant box, which was fun to carry home on the bus while also pushing the stroller). It’s kind of huge when set up but easily folds flat when not in use.

She prefers contemplating the Jolly Jumper to jumping in it.

Yesterday she wasn’t sure how she felt about being in the jumper and preferred just staring at it, but today she’s really getting the hang of it and seems to really enjoy being able to move under her own power.

(This video also features me in the background folding laundry and wearing shameful grey sweatpants.)

Pajama princess

How lovely are these rag dolls from Roving Ovine? I’m already planning on getting Gwen one for her first birthday.

This shop has the cutest pouches & tote bags, including some made from amazing vintage fabrics.

Dying to try my hand at these chewy no-bake granola bars.

This photo editing app has hands down the best filters imo.

Some blogs I’ve been enjoying lately: And Stay Sweet, Living is Breezy, and The Velvettes.

I rediscovered this song when looking for Morningtown Ride for my Lullaby post the other day, it is like the ultimate Stay Home anthem ie MY anthem.

Spring Wishing

It’s miserably cold & rainy outside and dark in my basement apartment. Some days I go outside just once in the morning to walk the dogs for twenty minutes and spend the rest of my time holed up on the couch in a pile of blankets. I’m powerfully sick of it and can’t wait for actual spring to start, so I’m trying to make it happen through sheer force of will.

Morning napper.

I put Gwen in these spring green & white striped pajamas as soon as they come out of the wash every time.

I get flowers from @blame_simian every week

Since Valentine’s Day Taylor has been buying me tulips every Wednesday. What says spring more than tulips? N O T H I N G.

These sprinkles look like mini Mini Eggs.

On Tuesday I bought these pastel Easter-y nonpariels and last night I used them to make cookies (that only turned out a little weird).

Cookies for breakfast because I'm an adult.

The recipe actually called for 1/2 cup of jimmies and only 2 tablespoons of nonpariels, but the only jimmies I have in that quantity are Halloween colours and silver, neither of which screams “spring”. Also, remind me to show you all my collection of sprinkles one day, it is OUT OF HAND. Anyway even jimmy-less these cookies are good! I was a little worried all the nonpariels would be too crunchy but they aren’t at all. I do kind of wish I’d put food colouring in them though, pink and turquoise and lilac cookies with pastel sprinkles would have been great.
