A Case of the Mondays

Normally I recap my weekend on Mondays but this weekend was a TOTAL BUST. In my draft I started writing about it I outlined all the things I was planning to do as if I’d already done them, but haha I never did. Not that I didn’t TRY, it just didn’t work out the way I’d planned.

There were three things I needed to do:
1. Get a new dog crate for Georgie & Kichou to share and rearrange the foyer accordingly, including setting up a new area for the daycare kids’ things.
2. Pack up all the assorted junk piled at the end of the hallway.
3. Drop the mattress support on Gwen’s crib because this was happening:

Okay, that one we actually did do, because safety is very important. But the other two? Not so much. We TRIED to get a new dog crate, but the pet supply store near us didn’t have the right one so we had to order it online. And I MEANT to pack up all the hallway junk, but instead I went on an endless mission to try and find gold glitter sheets- I have about fifty billion orders for gold banners and every single store is sold out of gold! Great. After that I was too tired so I just laid on the couch and watched Supernatural all afternoon/evening/my entire life.

After a turd of a weekend, this week isn’t off to a particularly good start. Georgie kept me awake half the night making weird honking noises (she has trachea problems) so I’m suuuuuuper exhausted. A smoothie got dropped on the floor, and after I cleaned it up I somehow knocked a glass off the counter and it smashed all over the kitchen and dining room floor. Broken glass in an open-plan apartment when you have a crawling baby? PERFECT. Just exactly what I want to deal with before nine am.

Thankfully this week is a short one- I took tomorrow off to go to the fair and then on Friday we’re going to San Francisco! And until then some pictures of Gwen being adorable should brighten my morning. Even though I didn’t do the best job in the world sewing the cover for this beanbag, the baby is a big fan.

I took these photos last Friday, but AFTER I made my post, d’oh.

Ever since I redid my layout I’m been very much into the idea of only having black & white pictures on my blog. Of course, that wouldn’t really work for say, nail polish or glitter banner pics. My friend Christin suggested I insert in a script that makes the images appear black and white until you mouseover them, but tragically I can’t do that because…
I have no idea what I am doing

Before I get to the links, I’m going to complain. A LOT. And some of it’s about work. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.

Gwen has been sick for a week and a half now, and she just doesn’t seem to be getting better. Yesterday I started thinking I should take her to the doctor. I felt a little “oh I’m overreacting, it’s just a cold” but I decided to do it anyway. Now, I only posted about this on my tumblr but I recently went through the process of trying to find a new doctor, as I was sick to death of my old doctor’s staffs’ incompetence and rudeness. The final straw came three days after I was diagnosed with Graves’, when the medical office assistant was so awful to me that I cried, and then insulted and humiliated me in front of the doctor, who didn’t do shit. And that doctor was no great shakes anyway; at Gwen’s six-month check-up she called Gwen “he” for the entire appointment until I took her diaper off. Like, way to be dialed into your patient’s needs, geez.

In the morning I called my new doctor’s office to try and get Gwen an appointment for this morning, since Taylor is home and awake on Friday mornings, but no dice, he didn’t have any appointments available until next week. I booked one anyway, but Gwen got sicker and sicker all afternoon so at the end of the day I decided to take her to the walk-in clinic. I hate going to the walk-in clinic because the wait is always interminable, especially at the one closest to my house. Instead I went to the one near Sym’s dad’s, because I’d heard it isn’t as busy and the doctors there are good. I’d never been there before myself, but I walked down the hill (IN THE RAIN) and when I arrived the waiting room was completely empty. A good sign! But when I went to the reception I saw the sign saying which doctor was on duty and oh my god I do not fucking believe it but IT’S MY USELESS OLD DOCTOR THAT I JUST QUIT WHAT THE HELL.

There was no way I was wasting my time with that mess so I left immediately and headed back up the hill (STILL IN THE RAIN) to try my luck at the clinic by my house, and in a burst of cleansing synchronicity they only had a 45 minute wait. Of course, if I just gone there in the first place I would have seen the doctor by that point because I’d been wandering hills in the rain for that long, but whatever. I put Gwen on the list and came home to walk the dogs and grab some packages to take to the post office. When I got back to the clinic there was only about 10-15 minutes to wait.

When it was our turn and I spoke to the doctor (who I actually liked, thank god), at first I could tell he was dismissing it as just a cold, but when I told him we were going to be flying next week and he listened to her chest and looked in her ears, he took it a little more seriously. Turns out that Gwen has bronchitis and an ear infection. PERFECT.

Also two weeks ago my endocrinologist adjusted my thyroid medication and it was CLEARLY a mistake because yesterday (OF ALL DAYS LIKE R U SRS????) my symptoms came back as bad as ever so throughout the entire ordeal I was jittery and sweaty and super agitated and had terrible stomach cramps. In fact, when I was at the pharmacy waiting for Gwen’s prescription I had to call Taylor to come and wait for it so I could go home because I thought I was going to have a bathroom emergency (I was, btw). WOW. GREAT. PERFECT. SO GOOD. JUST REALLY AWESOME.

Anyway. Links?

How cool are these animal pom poms???

Normally I’d be like UGH IT’S TOO WHIMSICAL but rn I’m very into this (hmm I wonder why the idea of quitting my job and moving away from everything is appealing to me so much rn…).

For all my Teen Wolf-loving friends, the official, gif-filled tumblr (also how much do I love that there is clearly someone whose job is making Teen Wolf gifs???).

A lot of bloggers are doing that weekly portrait thing this year but this is the only one I find interesting.

In case you missed it, this happened.

What Gwen wore this week.

Here’s hoping the weekend is better than this week has been, good lord.

Guilty Pleasures

Except not really because I have no guilt, shame or embarrassment about my love for dramatic teenagers. My three favourite shows right now:

Vampire Diaries
tvd
I don’t care how dumb it is now, I still love it.

Teen Wolf
tw
I don’t know why I started watching this show, but boy am I ever glad I did because it is LITERALLY the most dramatic show on television and that’s not even an exaggeration. I defy you to watch the scenery-chewing Michael Hogan bellowing and not agree with me.
tumblr_mr0v82wuwU1qhls5oo1_1280
While I was marathoning the first season Taylor was horrified that I would watch something so dumb, but then a snake came out of someone’s eyeball and he was hooked.

Pretty Little Liars
pll
This one I watch with Sym. We both like yelling at Aria, appreciating crazy Mona and hating on all the boyfriends. Her favourite is Hanna, but for me it’s all about Spencer “This is My Most Collegiate Blazer!” Hastings.

The thing about watching all these high school shows is sometimes my brain confuses them. It certainly doesn’t help that they share some actors- Torrey DeVitto is on Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars, Susan Walters has been on Vampire Diries and Teen Wolf, and Bianca Lawson has been on all three. I’ve definitely had a moment a few weeks ago where I thought to myself “A is the darach!”

Do you watch any of these shows? Do you love them? Come discuss them with me!

Hello, this is fox.

Such a good idea, makes me want to go crazy making friendship bracelets again.

Life’s a beach over on Love, Music, Wine and Revolution (ps did you know she has an etsy shop full of gorgeous vintage treasures as well?)

My favourite tumblr of all time ever forever.

An interesting collection of articles on “It” Girls.

Does The X-Files pass the Bechdel test?

Gwen’s first skinny jeans & me waxing poetical about her little shoes on Tiny Buttons this week.

Fall Fashions

Help I’ve fallen into a vortex of fall clothes for baby. My current obsession is Zara, but if I buy everything in my cart it’s like $200 and that’s crazy. I keep trying to whittle down my list some more and it just doesn’t seem possible.

Where There’s a Will

My apartment is basically a huge open plan mess. Gwen roams freely most of the time but sometimes I like to keep her in view. In an effort to keep Gwen both entertained and contained I put up a barrier wall separating her area from the part of the room where the kids were resting. I sat down with her and filled the space with her toys but this baby? She’s not interested in staying put.

She’s got places to be.

Recent Additions

Some things I’ve added to the shop in the past few weeks (the pictures are links).

A drippy “Can U Not” banner. I cut the letters out weeks ago, but didn’t get around to putting it together until this past weekend. I’m really happy with how the black outline looks on this one, I’m actually thinking of adding one to the “Whatever Forever” banner!

Some trios of colour-coordinating mini shape banners- red/pink and purple hearts, and green/turquoise stars.

Getting back to my paper bunting-making roots with this one! A set of mini bunting, cupcake flags and confetti in pink and white rose/dot paper. I bought a lot of patterned origami paper last week so I predict I’ll be making lots of these in the coming weeks- I’ve already made a set with pink and yellow rose/dot paper that I haven’t photographed yet.

Manicure Monday

WOW IT’S BEEN A WHILE!! Between having a new baby and working with my hands and exacto knives constantly I haven’t had the time/inclination to paint my nails in one hundred years. When I saw this amazing neon pink colour at the store though, I LITERALLY had to have it.
